2019 YEARS END General: 29/12/2019

The year is done. In 2019 our club was only able to hold trials days.

Due to the ongoing significant drought it was impossible to hold any cross country or grasstrack events for over 2 years now….

Our Club presentation was held in conjunction with a two day practise trials event at Martindale. We would like to thank the Sykes family for allowing us to use the 'rock garden' and a shout out to all our generous land owners that were willing to open their gates to us during the year, especially in the dry, trying conditions they are experiencing. Thank you! Thank you also to the members for organising & running the trials events throughout the year, and the riders for participating.

2019 Club Champions were:
Senior Trials Club Person of the Year = Ben Lucas
Junior Trials Club Person of the Year = James Cadman
Ladies champion = Sarah Grist
PeeWee Club Champion = Freddy Richardson
DMCC Point-score Rider of the Year = Allan Betts

Trials Point score results:
Junior: Freddy Richardson
Clubman: 1st James Cadman 2nd Rodger Brammall 3rd Mark Oakes
C grade: 1st Ben Lucas 2nd Andrew Richardson 3rd Jake Betts
B grade: 1st Al Betts 2nd Greg Nordsvan 3rd Matt Charley
A grade: 1st Al Phillipson 2nd Graeme Cadman
The Jan Phillipson Memorial Trials ‘Rider of the Year': Rowan Nixon

For 2020 we only have a trials calendar set.

As the drought conditions continue, with no realistic forecast of improving conditions, the land recovery will take a LONG time yet (sadly), before we can reconsider any other natural terrain events. Sorry.

Our thoughts and prayers to our rural community (enduring not only ongoing drought but now also bushfires) for improvement in their conditions soon.

Wishing all a Safe & Happy holiday season.

AGM 7:30pm Thursday 13thFebruary, 2020 Denman Anglican Hall

2019 ongoing drought General: 22/07/2019

Unfortunately we are still in grips of drought, so sadly, this year no:

Grasstrack motocross events nor

Pony express / junior cross country events

As these events are held on private property, and we are in the grips of drought where we have had insufficient rain leading to revovery of ground cover vegetation. Until such time, these events cannot be held. So let's hope for good rains and recovery of the land for the 2020 season - not forgetting those who rely on the land for their living!

In the meantime - have a go at trials - skill, not speed!

2019 Committee General: 18/03/2019

Your 2019 Committee

From AGM 14.2.19 President’s Report for 2018:

For the first time in our 42-year history, have we had no cross country or grass track events. The ongoing severe drought conditions has left our land bare of ground vegetation, making it untenable to hold these events.

Happily, trials were still able to hold all their events on the calendar. They also put on another great display at the Community Cracker Night in September. Luke has successfully been setting up trials on Ridernet this year and now we’re in a position for all events and memberships to be processed via the Ridernet platform. Led by Allan Betts, the trials section is working on a trailer to keep & carry equipment as well as a portable toilet. We do thank the Landholders for the use of their properties for the trials days we held and Luke for co-ordinating these events.

In October our club donated $1,000 to the Westpac Helicopter Appeal. Sadly, for St Johns Ambulance Singleton and Denman Rotary, neither had any fundraising opportunity with our club in 2018.

Thank you, Tim and Joe, our junior coaches for holding a kick-start day in February. Thanks to Elisen and Virginia for tending to our paperwork and financials. Also, thanks to the members who set up, scored & observed at our trials days.

It was also great to see a few members have a go at some open events with great results on lots of levels: riding the Australian Off-Road Championships, the Trials Aussie Titles, the Finke Desert Race and even Aussie GP racing.

2019 is starting out as dry as last year so the foreseeable ability to hold cross country or grass track events isn’t bright, so meantime – go the trials!

Office bearers 2019: President – Ivan Burkill, Vice President – Andrew Johnson, Secretary – Elisen Burkill, Treasurer (and pointscorer) - Virginia Chapman, Committee: Jeff Richardson, Luke Anderson, Tim O’Hara, Joe Wilkins, Al Betts, Amon Burkill. Club Delegates: Brad Cuneo, Matt Kiepert, Amon Burkill. Thanks to all who have taken on positions for 2019.

Our fees remain unchanged for 2019, and calendar is approved. Noting dates for cross country and grasstrack days pencilled in for latter half of year are to be confirmed, pending suitable recovery of the land.

We’ll keep you posted -  also on FaceBook.

2017 CLUB PONYX-JNR XC 30JUL17 X-Country: 31/07/2017

30th July, 2017 was a mild Winter’s day and the wedge tailed eagles soared on high while 91 motorcyclists from near and far raced our last pony express & junior cross country for 2017. Despite the dry and dusty conditions, the riders had a great day.

THANK YOU Jeff Wolfgang for your ongoing generous support of our club and community in allowing us the use of your land in the pursuit of our sport. Denman Rotary had another good day – selling out – Thank You also! St johns Ambulance, Singleton division also thanks for your ongoing support of our club in the provision of First Aid Services (3 injuries, a calf muscle - rider team 1st in class, haematoma - rider 3rd in class, and a fractured shoulder, team finished 6th).

Riders set out on a natural terrain cross country track – Seniors tackle the 12km track – 5 hours for teams and 4 hours Ironman and Vintage classes; Juniors 85cc/Lites ride a 8km course for 2/2.5 hours while the 65cc’s ride a 2km cut-off course for 1.5 hours. The Nippers can ride all day on the 500m Demo course. Overall, the riders covered over 3,100km throughout the day (seniors 1,980km,  juniors 1,140km) and that excludes the sweep riders who take turns sweep riding the track throughout the day, both senior & junior tracks. We processed 20 new memberships and issued 23 day licences. It’s good to see girls & ladies competing as well as multiple family members riding – brothers, fathers & sons (not necessarily in same classes). Of the 32 juniors, only one DNF’d (Did Not Finish) of the seniors, 3 teams and 3 ironmen DNF’d – mainly due to ‘had enough’! A few bikes failed, but in teams, the pair continue to share the surviving bike. At day’s end there’s nothing better than a warm shower!!

A BIG THANK YOU to Chappy for course setting, the Working Bee helpers on Saturday, toilet collection / return; packer-uppers at day’s end; Officials Ivan, Virginia, Elisen, Amon; Sweep Riders; scorers (seconded into helping, thank you!); Support Crews and of course the riders – which all this is for! Thank you for coming to Denman and enjoying your day :)

DMCC run what ya brung day ..Mothersday ... 14th May, 2017

Mothers day saw the Denman motor cycle club run their “ RUN WHAT YA BRUNG “ day at Chris and Virginia Chapmans property at Yarrawa.

Great local weather conditions greeted 22 competitors , some that travelled from afar to beat the rain , and the Denman club delivered the goods , another great day , an awesome Bbq and some friendly competition in some tricky and challenging terrain . A big Thanks to Bec and Johno for the BBQ and to those setting some new sections and clearing some old ones and to the land owners Chappy and Virginia

Kyle Middelton , Australians reigning # 1 expert put on a stunning display of bike control and used this event as a practise leading up to his assault on the world rounds overseas . The 5 junior riders witnessed Kyle do things on a motorcycle during the lunch time break that were just unbelievable!

Sunday had a full card of classes from juniors to expert , with the run what ya brung days , we saw a full range of trials bikes from Col Phillipson's lovingly handcrafted restored vintage BSA , right through to the newest European monoshock machines and some juniors (4) on the Oset electric bikes.

2017 CLUB PONYX-JNR XC 18JUN17 X-Country: 25/06/2017

Sunday 18th June, our 3rd Club Pony Express & Junior Cross Country for 2017 was held at Jerrys Plains Rd, Denman. A terrific day – 93 riders and no injuries – excellent!

The cool day made for good racing conditions, albeit a bit dusty due to lack of rain – unlike our coastal friends who have had too much!

A huge thank you to Landholder Jeff Wolfgang for his ongoing generosity for allowing us the use of his land.

To Chappy, course setter - Thank You! – lots of new track on seniors course – quite technical this time – with feedback good feedback.

Denman Rotary had a busy day keeping everyone fed but St Johns First Aid providers had a boring day (just the way we like it!).

Thank you to Darren our Steward and Michael our Clerk of Corse for coming to officiate at our event.

Thanks also to our members who came on Saturday for the working bee to set up and to those who helped pack up as the sun disappeared behind the mountain. Also to the ladies who were seconded into helping score both tracks – the juniors and the seniors. Also importantly - our Sweep Riders, thanks!

A long but good day was had by all – especially getting under a warm shower that evening!

A new class was promoted for this event = Vintage (about pre-1985), but only attracted one team – hopefully there’ll be more next time!

Lots of new faces among some regulars.

2017 CLUB PONYX-JNR XC 30APR17 X-Country: 06/05/2017

Club Pony Express &, Junior Cross Country

Sunday 30th April – winter is starting to make its presence felt but a glorious day! A pair of wedge-tailed eagles soared above while 98 motorcycle riders to our tracks on Spur Hill. Denman Motor Cycle Club hosted its second pony express day for the year. The track was fantastic, weather conditions great and we had an excellent turnout.

As always, our biggest thanks to Landholder, Jeff Wolfgang for his enduring support of our club allowing us the use of his land!  A well run day is thanks to a core of loyal workers: track setting (Chris, Shad & Brad), porta-loo pick-ups (& returns); working bee (Shad, Brad, Jo-Ann, Holly, Tim, Mollie, James, Danielle & Ivan); paperwork (Elisen, Jess/MNSW), primary officials (Ivan, Brad & Elisen), sweep riders (John, Shad, Marty, Ricky, Mick, Andrew, Richard, Chris, Paul, Scott, Troy), scorers (Coby, Jo-anne, Yvette, Kylie, Mollie, Holly, Tiarne, Elisen), support crews and rider participation. Of course, also thanks for those who helped pack up at days’ end as the sun was slipping behind the mountain.

We also thank Denman Rotary for keeping us all fed and St Johns Ambulance, Singleton for provision of First Aid (3 injuries: 2 collarbones and a busted knuckle) we appreciate the ongoing support of both these volunteer organisations with mutual benefit. Must also add the outside the call-of-duty help we have had by both Motorcycling NSW and Muswellbrook Coates.

27 juniors rode the 8km junior track (65’s did a 2km cut-off) 65cc = 1.5 hr, 85cc = 2hr and 125cc = 2.5 hours. We hand a huge field of Ironman riders = 27 of the 71 seniors entered. Ironman ride 4hours solo on the 12km senior track while the pony express teams of two share 5 hours riding the course. The feedback from the riders was overwhelmingly positive, such a good day was had.

As always, we attract riders from a large catchment area. We processed 39 new memberships, 8 renewals (excludes those already current members): Port Macquarie, Central Coast, Mullaley, Tamworth, Dungog, Newcastle region, Greater Sydney, Nundle, Maitland district, Bohnock and ‘locals’ Singleton/Muswellbrook & Denman J

It is great to have a great family atmosphere – kids riding, dads (& mum) sweepriding or competing in the race; mums/partners/daughters helping with scoring; fathers & sons in teams; brothers in teams – some using the event as a meeting point to catch up where they live hours apart J We are proud of our reputation and pleased to offer events riders can enjoy both the riding and social gathering.

Good luck to our riders participating in the upcoming Finke Desert Race!

Vale John R Scott General: 19/12/2016

Vale John R Scott RIP 18.12.2016

With sadness we advise of the passing of John Scott.

John was a founding member of our club 40 years ago in 1976.

“At a public meeting convened by John Scott & Dexter Burkill on 8th January, 1976, it was decided that a club should be formed due to the great interest shown in dirt bikes in particular, by younger members of the community in the area and that it would be a good idea to get them all together regularly to foster a sporting atmosphere, rider training and demonstrate to the community that riding a motorbike was not a criminal activity.” At another meeting, the club’s first AGM was held in Feb where John was elected Club Secretary, Dexter the President and Alan Doak the Treasurer.

John has been the proud sponsor of the Annual Senior Club Championship shield.

40 years on, our club still upholds the charter and values our inaugural members set up.

Rest In Peace, John.

2016 Annual Presentations 13NOV16 General: 18/11/2016

Denman Motor Cycle Club 2016 Annual Presentation Fun Day

Celebrating 40years of Riding, Fun and Fellowship in Motorcycling from 1976 to 2016!

Sunday 13th November our club enjoyed another day of play & fellowship. The day started with our Practice Trials with about a dozen junior & senior riders taking on the progressively harder trials sections set up the hill – with most making it, a few spectacular “endo’s” without harm, lots of fun to watch J Followed by BBQ lunch and then Presentations.

Presentations recognize the contributions made to our club enabling us to continue enjoyment of our chosen sport. It also congratulates the riders who have consistently participated and excelled throughout the year. We are proud of our reputation of providing a safe sporting environment within a fun, family friendly atmosphere.

Firstly, we gave Certificates of Appreciation to the following:

Landholders – our greatest thanks always to the generosity of the Landholders who allow us use of their land in the pursuit of our sport and pastime of motorcycling. Without land, no riding.

Thank you: Jeff Wolfgang, Glen Munro Estate, Robin & Sandra Wolfgang, Peter & Gai Betts, Chris & Virginia Chapman, James Cowan, Bruce & Sam Sykes, Bryant & Pat Collins, Allan & Jo Betts.

Community Volunteer Organisations who have helped us throughout the year with catering, we thank: Denman Rotary and Sandy Hollow P&F.

First Aid provision: we thank St Johns Ambulance Singleton.

Club members who have contributed to the running of our club, consistently giving of their time, Certificates to: Enduro/ Cross Country: Chris Chapman, Trials: Andrew Johnson, Grass Track/ Motocross: Shad Blackhall & Amon Burkill, Junior Coaching: Tim O’Hara & Joe Wilkins, Treasurer: Michelle O’Hara, Pointscorer: Virginia Chapman.

There are many other members who have helped throughout the year with scoring, observing, course setting, marshalling and officiating at all our events: Stewards, Clerk of Courses, Race Secretaries and Scrutineers. We also really appreciate the riders and support crews for supporting our club.

Points are awarded to members for riding (places and participation), and non-riding - helping at working bees, officiating and event helping score/observe/marshal, and attending club meetings. Riding trophies are based on riding points only, but points for Championship Trophies includes all non-riding points, and can therefore be won by a non-riding member!

2016 NSW TRIALS R3 OPEN & CLASSIC_POST CLASSIC TITLES CANCLLED Trials: 29/09/2016

To the NSW Trials Titles riders who were 'gunna enter': it's too late.

We have made the lamentable decision to cancel this weekend's 2 day titles: R3 NSW Open and 2016 Classic & Post Classic Titles. At close of entries yesterday 28.9.16 there were insufficient entries to make the event viable: only 22 for Sunday and 15 for Monday.

We cannot say strongly enough our disheartenment and extreme frustration in cancelling this event - enormous disappointment to the riders who did enter - only to be penalised at the hands of the 'Gunna's' ...

Riders need to be aware the amount of work that goes into hosting an event - and that organizers do not have a 'crystal ball' and cannot host to 'I was gunna enter' riders. You cannont expect catering to be provided for a few riders and to have people give up their time to officiate and observe for the weekend with classes not even meeting minimum numbers ... numbers less than we have on a normal club day ..

The 'gunna enter' riders generally figure organisers will accept their late entry - which can, generally be accommodated for a few, if there are already sufficient entries at close of entries to hold the event in the first instance. This is a State Title Event/s. There will also be implications also for the NSW Trials Committee to consider.

2016 NSW Trials Open R3 & Classic_Post Classic Titles Trials: 05/09/2016

Exciting News! Sup Regs have been approved and entries are now open.

October long weekend we are hosting:

Sunday 2nd October: ROUND 3 of the 2016 OPEN TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP and

Monday 3rd October: the 2016 CLASSIC & POST CLASSIC MOTO TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Camping allowed Sat/Sun nights, fees per Sup Regs.

Entries must be received by Wednesday 28th September, 2016.

There will be a canteen operating both days.

Get your entries in NOW!!

2016 PONYX-JUNIORXC 31JUL16 X-Country: 07/08/2016

Sunday 31st July, 2016. What a great day!

After the rains over previous 6 weeks, the track was excellent – damp with just a little dust coming up in a few spots later in the day. 74 riders came for our club event – including some new faces – welcome!

A couple of nippers had a great day on our new ‘Demo’ track for 4-U9 y.o. no competition, just fun riding as many laps as they could :)

Pony Express: teams of 2 (senior) riders take turns completing as many laps in 5 hours they can; Ironman (senior) same except solo for 4 looong hours; Junior Cross Country : solo as many laps possible in allocated time … 65cc/100F = 1.5 hours, 85cc/150F = 2 hours and junior lites (125cc/250F) = 2.5 hours.

Our thank yous: Firstly to Jeff Wolfgang, Landholder for his ongoing support of our club for allowing us the use of his property. Huge thanks especially to Shad, Jed, Chris, Ned & Tim for your work in course setting – the feedback being very positive with riders enjoying the sometimes technical but great tracks. Sweep Riders led by John, Shad & Chris you do a very important job (even though you may well also be having fun) in assisting riders having difficulties and especially in securing important assistance for a fallen rider requiring medical assistance. To St Johns Ambulance, Singleton Division for your ongoing support of our club in providing First Aid. This time a junior rider requiring ambulance for dislocated knee :( plus a senior with a minor injury. Scorers on both junior and senior tracks led by Virginia & Elisen assisted by others throughout the day. Ivan our Steward and Brad our Clerk of Course, thanks. Denman Rotary for keeping us fed – Big Thanks! And finally, thank you riders and supporters for coming to our day!

We had riders aged 6 to almost 60. Ironman who came 2nd almost missed a podium finish – ran out of fuel on course after 12/15 laps – luckily only about 100m from pits – would have been a different story if pushing bike for km … Over 35 team who were in front all day missed out on podium due to not 1, not 2, but 3 flat tyres!!

Our club is well noted for our friendliness and participants appreciate the sense of community and camaraderie shared by all. Competition is healthy and friendly. The sportsmanship was highlighted especially by the juniors at the incident of a fallen rider: one who stopped and then raised alarm to officials, another who stopped, helped remove bike and staying with the rider until help arrived – this is true sportsmanship – sacrificing their race to help a fellow competitor in trouble (we do credit time lost to competitors who help). We have also heard from other young riders who have been assisted by other (competing) riders (and sweeps). You are awesome human beings and Thank You!

It is nice to have people appreciate what you do :)

2016 GRASSTRACKMX 260616 Grass Track: 14/07/2016

Excellent Club Grasstrack Motocross 26th June, 2016

Best grasstrack! Naturally watered over the previous 3 weeks – track conditions were perfect – not boggy and no dust all day! Having cancelled previous 2 grasstrack dates due to the extremely dry conditions, it was terrific! We managed 5 x heats after sight laps. Numbers were low, for various reasons including members’ saving’ themselves / bike for upcoming Hattah Desert Race the following weekend. As always, families were riding (dads/mum and children) having a great day. 5 x O’Hara’s, 4 x Hourigan, 3 x Chapman and 2 x Sweeney family members all took home a ribbon! Club racing is – just – for award ribbons :) A few new faces and some who have never ridden Grasstrack (natural terrain) Motocross before had an enjoyable day. Welcome Justin S first race after doing Kick Start program and also Tarrah!

A good frost gave way to a cool but good day for 40 riders. Thank you Denman St Joseph’s P&F for catering! Thanks to St John Ambulance Singleton division for first aid support – not one scratch even to tend to…. THANK YOU Glen Munro Estate (Wolfgang Family) for allowing us the use of the venue – it is always greatly appreciated by our club and especially the riders! Thank s also to all who helped marshal and score throughout the day – you all help the day run well. Support crews and riders, thank you also.

Exciting News: Our cross country tracks (‘Spur Hill MVRG’) have been inspected & approved awaiting track licence, which now includes a Demo track for 4y.o. – U9. So now we can accommodate all ages, as til now cross country events could only support 7+ y.o.

2016 PONYX-JUNIORXC 22MAY16 X-Country: 02/06/2016

Sunday 22nd May, another fine Autumn day, continued dry weather but a great turnout for our second cross country event in 2016. 75 riders – many new faces came to participate in the senior pony express and junior cross country.

A big field of 22 in Ironman class rode for 4 hours, teams rode 5 hours; junior 65cc rode for 1 ½ hours, 85cc 2 and junior lites 2 ½ hours over natural terrain courses. With the dry, bull dust became prevalent, concealing rocks and adding challenge.

At presentations, it was heartening to hear the fun the riders had – their gratitude to the Landholder – Jeff Wolfgang, their supporters and competition. We also thank Denman Rotary for ‘good grub’ and St Johns Ambulance Singleton, who tended a single minor (knee) injury during sight lap. Thank you Chris & co for track work; club officials, sweep riders and scorers – we appreciate your valuable contributions to helping make a our days run so well :)

We had a few father / sons riding; ladies and girls and just a few DNF’s (did not finish). At days’ end just 16 seconds separated 1st & 2nd in the Ironman class after 4 hours racing! The top two Over 35s teams did same number of laps as winning Expert team; Holly beat the boys in the Junior Lites; riders were aged from 8 to 65; all who participated, worked or watched were grateful for a warm shower that night!

Some riders were practicing for the Finke Desert Race - an off road, multi terrain two-day race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community. The race is held annually on long weekend in June, and is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Northern Territory and has the reputation of being one of the most difficult offroad courses in one of the most remote places in the world.

A surprise gift for all financial club members was given out – this being our 40th Year, we had commemorative keyrings and badges made, and each financial member receives one of choice.

For results, go to results page.

The MX event for 5th June has been cancelled. Glenbawn was scheduled, but is no longer hiring their track to other clubs. We were planning on re-venuing to grasstrack, but the ongoing dry weather has fouled that plan also.

Next event will be 2 day trials at Sandy Hollow 12&13 June and Grasstrack MX at Glen Munro 26th June see calendar.

Track licence renewals are underway and we have added a mini enduro track for 4-9y.o. at our Spur Hill venue. Currently we can only cater for 7+y.o, but from July can include nippers for mini enduro!

2016 PONYX-JUNIORXC 03APR16 X-Country: 11/05/2016

Breeze keeps the dust at bay.

Sunday 3rd April the Denman Motor Cycle Club held its first cross country event for 2016. Given that it’s forgotten how to rain since January, we had a pretty dry day which got up to 30 degrees, even. Thankfully a breeze all day kept the dust at bay – oh! And how good was it to get in the shower?

End of daylight saving seemed to get everyone organised early and the day ran very smoothly with 80 riders. We saw many familiar faces and lots of new as well, and also attracted a few pro riders practicing for upcoming state title rounds at Portland, NSW.

A huge field of 21 ironman class rode the 10km natural terrain cross country track solo for 4 long hours. The rest of the seniors rode for 5 hours in teams of two (two riders one or two bikes) … some went from 2 bikes to one … others from 2 riders to one … and some even DNF (did not finish). You could see the exhaustion in their bodies & faces and great relief when the finish sign went up! Combined seniors, the total ground covered (excluding sight laps and sweeps) was 498 laps = about 5,000km! Juniors were a bit low in numbers, but took on the 4 & 8km courses in good spirit (1.5, 2.0, 2.5 hours) – all up 212 laps ridden = total 1,300km!.

A HUGE thank you to Jeff Wolfgang for allowing us to use his property in the pursuit of our sport and pastime! Also to Team Chris and Shad and a few others for track changes / preparation / work in weeks prior – more technical and challenging probably also good with prevailing dry conditions to keep fast sections shorter.

Thank you Denman Rotary for keeping us fed. St Johns Ambulance for provision of First Aid – unfortunately 4 injuries (2 x suspected #ribs, 1 x toes, 1 x laceration) – as always appreciate your support.

Thank you key officials, many sweeps, scorers and especially the riders and support crews for participating at our event.

For results go to Results Page (nice to note a few recurring family names!)

2016 MX AT GLENBAWN 13MAR16 Grass Track: 11/05/2016

Sunday 13th March we had our first race day for 2016.

Venue: Lake Glenbawn Motorcycle Track with 52 riders coming from near and far for a day of motocross racing. Aged 6 to 45+ with several juniors’ first race after recently completing kick start course. A hot day but managed 4 x heats after practice.

Our thanks to Upper Hunter Motorcycle Club for track hire, track watering and running the canteen! St Johns Singleton thank you for first aid – one broken collarbone (first race of day) and another minor injury.

Thank you to the officials and many marshals for giving up your time so riders can have fun :)

Excellent riding – some entertaining the spectators with huge air and trick moves.

Thanks to all the riders for coming along.

2015 CLUB ANNUAL PRESENTATIONS General: 10/11/2015

Denman Motor Cycle Club 2015 Fun Day & Presentations

Sunday 8th November, members and families got together for their 2015 fun day and presentations at “Loloma” Denman. We had a great turnout, with the morning seeing about 20+ juniors and seniors taking on the side of a hill for a practice trials day (no scoring, just fun). From the base it didn’t look too hard … and even riding a trials bike didn’t guarantee you’d make it to the top!

This was not racing, it was simply you and your bike pitted against the terrain. Challenging your balance, skill and concentration. One at a time, competitors rode over a ‘section’- of natural terrain – up the hill. The object was to complete the section without leaving the marked boundaries of the section, falling off, stalling the bike or rolling (or somersaulting) backwards :) Riders from age 7 to 60+ took on the progressive hill sections from slight rise (little 50cc bikes), while juniors & seniors rode progressively harder sections from ‘this looks OK’ size to ‘widowmaker’ size! The final section saw just 13/50 attempts reach the top! With the rain in the preceding week we were concerned we couldn’t hold the day, but it turned out perfect – overcast and cool (not hot & muggy!), the course damp (not dry!). Spectators had a most enjoyable time watching the attempts – some looked like the bike was riding up the hill with its riders’ limbs-a-flapping to the top, some just cruisin’ to the top … others took it as far as they could before laying the bike over – some in more impressive style than others! Even better – not a single injury :)

A very fun family day for our whole club.

Our club hosts 3 main disciplines of riding – trials, cross country and grasstrack motocross, and it was terrific we could all get together and socialize, with lunch and then presentations.

Presentations are an opportunity to say thank you and to recognize the efforts, contributions and successes of the members, riders and supporters of our club.

Grasstrack (Natural terrain) Motocross 13th Sept, 2015

Another gorgeous spring day, track 70% new course, watered all day Saturday but one of the lowest number of riders in years… nevertheless the 32 riders who participated had a great day, enjoying the new course (technical but good flow) and five heats!

Our club says a big Thank You to the Glen Munro Estate for allowing us the use of their property for our club grasstrack days – it is greatly appreciated and enjoyed by the riders. At short notice Denman Rotary ran the canteen – thank you! Thanks also for ongoing support of St Johns Ambulance (Singleton) volunteers throughout the year for provision of First Aid. Thank you to Rosebrook Sand & Gravel for loan of water truck and especially Gavin Stocks for giving up your Saturday to water our track – which very effectively kept the dust at bay! While we’re on Thank you’s: Coates Hire Muswellbrook for looking after us with toilet hire throughout the year.

To our members who attend working bees, marshal, score and officiate - so that our events run smooth and well AND all the riders for participating and your support crews THANKS!!

All the heats plus practice amounted to about 40km riding for each rider (except 65cc = 29km and nipper = 11km!) and then there were those who rode two classes = 80km riding (racing!!) for the day – no wonder they feel it the day after :) Power to little Jacinta (50cc Demo) who fell off in heat 4 and hurt herself – a hug from Daddy made it better and she kept riding :) Some excellent form from junior riders Jed Blackhall, Ned Chapman, Max Lundie and Amy Marshall. Two juniors injured (one possible #collarbone and one #forearm) unfortunately, and wishing them speedy recoveries.

GRASSTRACKMX 30AUG15 Grass Track: 08/09/2015

Club Grasstrack Motocross 30th August, 2015

The end of Winter, a glorious spring-like day and Denman Motor Cycle Club hosted a club Grasstrack motocross with 37 riders. A small turn-up, but fun for those that came (apparently a few other concurrent events on around) The 60mm rain a week ago made for excellent track conditions, albeit got quite dusty in places as the day progressed. We managed 5 heats (instead of usual4) – good times! Rider ages spanned 6 to 58 y.o. several families with dad & son/s riding (Eastwoods, O’Haras, Hourigans, Dyetts, Summerfields) and a family of 5 – Mum, Dad & 3 of their 4 children! Nice to see some girls riding, too (and beating the boys!). Two minor injuries reported, with both riders continuing racing.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Landholders Wolfgang Family for allowing us the use of their land to enjoy our sport. St Johns Ambulance Singleton Division for provision of First Aid and Martindale P&C for yummy food & drinks all day! Members who attended working bee on Saturday, and those who were officials, marshals, starter, scorers and all who helped pack up at days’ end – much appreciated!

PONYX-JUNIORXC 02-08-2015 X-Country: 15/08/2015

Pony Express & Junior Cross Country 2.8.15

A gorgeous warm Winter’s morning welcomed over 80 riders for our last club pony express and junior cross country for 2015. Denman Rotary had the coffee & bacon & egg rolls going and yummy beef & gravy rolls.

After 2 hrs sign on starting at 7am, the mandatory Official’s brief and Rider’s brief, and Guided Sight Lap, Competition kicked off just after 10:00 am. Were just settling in nicely when the wind attacked! Canopies decided they were sails - so in a mad flurry, out came pegs & ropes, paperwork was taped down - but pleased we were the dust was blowing away from pits!

Unfortunately St Johns Ambulance were kept busier than usual – we had 5 injured seniors, two of which were taken by Ambulance (a broken wrist and a collarbone). Thank you SJA Singleton for your continued support.

Otherwise the day ran well as usual, except the leading clubman pony express team Charlie Douglas & Ryan McLaughlan– ahead by a lap on rest of class, in the last (16th) lap broke chain – resulting in a DNF (did not finish), no ribbon. All the juniors bar two finished and all the ‘fossils’ finished with bikes & bodies intact, albeit somewhat s&s. Brothers Mark & Adam Rowsell in Clubman just squeezed in last lap a mere 4 seconds before clock ticked 5 hours snatching 3rd place.

Our club and riders greatly appreciate the support of Landholder Jeff Wolfgang for allowing us the use of his land – Thank You! We also thank our officials: Steward Rob from Cessnock for the day, who gave up his Sunday to support our club and also Brad our Asst Clerk of Course, Amon our Scrutineer, Elisen Race Secretary, To Chris, Shad and helpers for course work; John and all the sweep riders for both tracks all day; Virginia and helpers with scoring all day; all who helped pack up at days’ end and to all the riders with their support crews for coming to Denman! It’s always interesting seeing where our riders come from – driving many hours – it must be fun! From Mudgee, Armidale, Illawarra, Hunter, Greater Sydney,  Central Coast, Port Macquarie and of course Upper Hunter area! Thank You All :)

PONYX-JUNIORXC 28JUN15 X-Country: 12/07/2015

Club Pony Express & Junior Cross Country

Sunday 28th June, 2015 at Spur Hill MVRG a mildly frosty morning gave way to a fine Winter’s day for 90 riders who came for a great club cross country racing event.

Sign on took two hours! **sigh** mid season and we processed 46 memberships (many new / some renewals), and 44 day licences – that’s almost half the entries! While this may not sound too dramatic – each has to complete (and pass) a theory test - and practical riding test (if not holder of RTA ‘R’ endorsed licence) – vvveeerrrry time consuming – a huge thanks to Dave for helping out with marking theory papers – greatly appreciated!!

But Rotary didn’t mind – they made good sales with egg & bacon rolls and coffee! We pass our condolences to Rotary at the recent loss of a loyal member – we miss Des too! And our prayers for a speedy recovery for Neville. Thank you Denman Rotary for the excellent work you do !

Riders really enjoyed the course and riding conditions – the track was perfect and the cooler weather excellent as well!

11 riders toughed out the Ironman class, (except 2) completing 4 hours riding solo – well done Blaine Cuneo 13 laps x 12.5km = 162.5km cross country racing in 4 hours – even lapped 2nd & 3rd. Clubman class was huge – 14 teams of two – all finished bar one team, five teams completing 15 laps in the 5 hours – as did winning Over 45 team and top two in Over 35’s class – and top Expert team completed 17 laps – fastest team Richard Wilkins & Amon Burkill.

In the 21 juniors the junior Lites had 11 including 4 girls – top 3 finished 12 laps (x 8km) in 2.5 hours – led by Jed Blackhall, closely followed by Courtney Rubie – well done! Ned Chapman blitzed the 85cc Big Wheel class – 9 laps x 8km in 2 hours. We had but one 65cc competitor – Brandon finished 5 laps of 4km course in 2 hours.

At our next cross country day we will be able to include juniors aged 7+YO on the 65cc course – hopefully this will boost the competition in this class, as current track licence only allowed 9+YO on 65cc to compete.

Thank you also to St Johns who treated a senior rider in practice lap, then dispensed a few Band-Aids during the rest of the day.

At presentations the riders expressed their appreciation to Jeff Wolfgang for allowing us the use of his property, the club for putting on another great event and to fellow competitors for a fun day.

We thank the members who set up on Saturday, all who helped on Sunday – especially sweeps, scorers (including those we ‘roped into’ helping as well!) and to those who helped pack up as the cold and dark started to set in….. noting we passed convoys of horse floats leaving Denman as we returned to town – believe they had an excellent day as well.

See results page.

Next club event not till 3rd August –another pony express & junior cross country INCLUDING 7-9 y.o. 65cc!

We hope to run a kick start day for juniors before then – will advise when we have a date - email secretary if you know anyone interested.

Still on! Then Not.... (edited) Grass Track: 12/07/2015

we've had 2mm rain, cloud mass moving away, track and access a little slippery but OK. So we're going ahead with the day!

**EDITED**

Only 24hrs each way and we wouldn't have had to call it off :(

Sunday 31st May, Denman Motor Cycle Club had a grass track MX day scheduled. At 5 a.m. the phone & Facebook started: is it still on? It's raining in Tamworth, Kurri. We've had 2mm overnight, BOM shows cloud mass has passed at around 6 a.m. and the track inspection is good. The forecast for Sunday (Denman) was fine with possible afternoon showers. Being optimists, we called it on. Martindale P&C had the bacon & egg rolls on, St Johns Ambulance crew are there, sign on happening and down comes more rain!! Riders from Tamworth, Dungog, Cessnock, Central Coast, Sydney are keen to ride, even in the rain! Sadly, at about 9:30 the officials decided to call the race off for safety and environmental reasons, refunds handed out, tapes rolled up, pegs collected and riders head home. Had the weather waited just 24 hours, it would have been so much fun!

2015 Yamaha NSW ORC R3.4 16.17May15 X-Country: 22/05/2015

Denman hosts Yamaha 2015 NSW Off Road Championships Rounds 3 & 4 on 16th & 17th May at ‘Spur Hill MVRG’, Denman.

Denman’s population increased by around 350 for the 2015 NSW Off Road Championships Rounds 3&4 last weekend. Denman Motor Cycle Club the proud hosts of this massive prestigious event in the state off road motorcycling calendar.

Sign on began on Friday afternoon as 121 riders began arriving from around the state for an 8 am start on Saturday. Seniors rode the 12km Cross Country track while the juniors rode Sprint on a separate 7km cross country track. On Sunday, juniors and seniors swapped – seniors doing sprint and the juniors cross country.

Brief point of difference: Cross country = riders try to get as many laps into set times (eg seniors 2.5 hours, juniors 1, 1.5 or 2 hours depending on class). Most laps, shortest time wins.

Sprint = riders are ‘seeded’ and started individually, timed to 1/100th second. After set heats, winner has lowest accumulated time. All timing was electronic with transponders fitted to each bike, with receivers at start and finish of each lap.

Our club and the riders express a huge THANK YOU to Jeff Wolfgang & family for the use of his property to enable us to host this event. Noted a car full of vintage machinery enthusiasts got lost - asking us where Jeff's place was - who had a machinery club open day at his collection and tractor trek.

Further, to all of our member volunteers for their hundreds of hours of track preparations, paperwork, co-ordination, sweeps & to families and friends of our members who also volunteer to help us out. The success of the event is only made possible by the tireless efforts of our members & helpers. Congratulations Chris, Shad, Tony and helpers for excellent tracks, which were enjoyed by the majority of riders – nice and technical to suit a national event! Weather was fine, party overcast and breezy - track got dusty.

We thank NSW Enduro for their big contribution in the support of the series, in particular with timing, trophies and officials – Thank you Steward Jan, Scorer Steve, Scrutineer Justin, with assistants Danny and Treena. Also Clerk of Course Ivan, Race Secretary Elisen and Ass’t Clerk of Course Virginia.

First Aid is a crucial service to our sport and we appreciate the continued support of St Johns Ambulance, Singleton Division. Last year our club donated additional funds for the purchase of a Spinal Board for The Singleton division’s assets. We were proud to make formal presentation of the board at Presentations. Their members in attendance were enjoying ‘quiet’ time Sunday arvo, overlooking the beautiful valley, taking in the action at the cross country pit area and were overheard making a little ditty: ‘Ivan & Jan went to the dam, to fetch a pail of water. Ivan slipped in and Jan couldn’t stand up for laughter!’ Shortly after, a call came in for medical assistance. An ambulance required for a junior rider with a foot injury. Two other minor injuries treated over the weekend, but a senior rider self-admitted to hospital Saturday evening with broken ribs (after finishing race, slipped from 2nd to 4th place).

Denman Rotary – thank you for proving hot food including yummy pumpkin soup, hot gravy beef rolls and chocolate :) over the weekend. This big weekend is part of our mutually beneficial relationship helping you raise the funds your hardworking organisation does all year round to the benefit of our local community, our schools and wider reaching goals of Rotary nationally. Thank you!

A raffle is being run by NSW Enduro to benefit Dungog community who were devastated by extreme floods in April. Tickets $5 each. Denman MCC donated an entry refund (value $160) winner: Phillip Parish. There is a long list of prizes. Further draw for Kyogle entry fee will be at Kyogle, 26.7.15 and Major Draw will be at final round at Dungog 15.8.15. All the money raised will be given to the Dungog MCC for contribution to their community who are always very welcoming and supporting of enduro sporting, most recently hosting the Australian 4 Day Enduro in August last year.

At presentations it is rewarding to hear well-spoken juniors appreciating the efforts of their parents, the Denman club, their sponsors, the landholder and good sportsmanship, congratulating each other.

Congratulations to all of our members who rode the NSW Enduro Sprint/Cross Country Titles across the weekend. Great effort by Kyle & Amy Marshall, Raife Dooley, Mitch & Patrick Dyett, Larnie Chapman & Bailey Graham who all rode brilliantly across the 2 days as well as Podium Positions to Jed Blackhall (3rd both day J4), Holly Cuneo (3rd both days Junior Girls), Zane Temperley (3rd Sat J3), Ned Chapman (2nd both days J1) & Mitch Kellner (1st Sat 2nd Sun Expert 16-19 y.o) and Dungog’s Jacob Peacock (2nd Sat 1st Sun Expert 16-19). Other club members with podium finishes include: Brittany & Courtney Rubie, Blaine Cuneo, David Pratten, Mitchell Hart, Francisco Vilches & Sean Smith.

Fantastic results by all our riders & an amazing weekend had by everyone who attended. Full results available on MyLaps website. Seniors: Yamaha 2015 NSW ORC R3&4 Denman Seniors Juniors: Yamaha 2015 NSW ORC R3&4 Denman Juniors

Grasstrack MX 12APR15 Grass Track: 20/04/2015

Great Grasstrack Day!

Sunday 12th April, 62 riders signed up for a fun day at Glen Munro MVRG for a Grasstrack Natural Terrain Motocross Club Day.

It was so dry a fortnight ago, we didn’t look like we were going to have our first round, but forty millimeters rain over Easter did put some moisture into the dry ground, topped up with water truck on Saturday afternoon, the track held together for about half the day before getting dusty. The track was a bit shorter than usual, a bit technical and enjoyed by the riders. The 50cc Demo class had a short 500m mini course which was taken on by 4 Nippers with the biggest smiles! Sportsmanship seen from junior riders shaking hands and congratulating fellow competitors is always a pleasure to witness.

We THANK the Wolfgang Family Estate for allowing us the use of their property for our sport. Also Martindale P&C for canteen all day and to St Johns Ambulance for provision of First Aid.

29/31 juniors and 28/31 seniors finished the 4 heats. A couple of minor injuries and bike issues. The over 35 class had riders 38yo to 58yo. One of Australia’s top Enduro riders, Mitch Bowen came for a ride – taking out both the Open and All Powers classes – each race almost lapping the field in 4 laps- so fast!

We would like to thank the few who came out on Saturday’s working bee and to Gavin and Rosebrook Sand & Gravel track watering. To the twenty who helped run the day – officials – sign on, scrutineering, scoring, marshaling and also all those who helped at days’ end rolling up bunting, collecting pegs, packing up canopies and towing back the toilets – YOU ALL HELP make our day great! Thank you so much.

Run What Ya Brung 12APR15 Trials: 20/04/2015

“Ride What Ya Brung”

On 12th April we held  a trials club day at “the Ranch”, Martindale – a “ride What Ya Brung”. Early fog lifted in the beautiful valley and we thank the Sykes family for allowing us the use of their property.

Ride what ya brung attracted 27 riders – still trials, but bikes not restricted to “twin shock” trials bikes (pre 1985), to include mono and electric trials bikes. Riders came from Newcastle, Tamworth, Armidale, Singleton, Raymond Terrace and of course Denman, Baerami, Muswellbrook ☺

Seven sections are set over rocks, logs, gullies, sharp turns and riders take turns riding each section 5 times throughout the day, accruing points (penalties). Sections have ‘splits’ for different grades – A, B, C, Clubman and Juniors. Riders accrue points for ‘footing’ (one for each time foot touches the ground to max 3 points lost per section) and 5 points for stopping or riding outside marked course. The objective is to get a ‘clean’ (zero points). The rider with the least points wins!

We also would like to thank Sandy Hollow P&C for catering, all those who helped observe and mark sections – not much point in riding if there’s no-one there to score ☺.

Thanks to those who came out on Saturday to set the sections and who helped pack up at the end.

The Ranch will be the venue for the NSW Classic & Post Classic trials titles in September.

Dry & Dusty! Sunday 29th March was the first race day for 2015 for Denman Motor Cycle Club at Spur Hill MVRG for our Pony Express & Junior Cross Country. No breeze to speak of, dry & dusty 30°C, forecast rain in week preceding yielded a mere 5mm …

Bright & early 84 riders for sign on took about 2 hours – most needing memberships / renewals, lots of One Day Licences. After Riders brief and sight lap racing started just after 9:30 a.m. 4 hours for Ironman, 5 hours Senior Pony Express teams, 2 hours 65cc & 85cc Small Wheel, 2 ½ hours Junior Girls, 85cc Big Wheels and Junior Lites. Several flats, a few levers, tape for blistered hands and a few bruises. One clubman rider had to be doubled back after catapulting down a hill and twisting his knee ☹ and just before ends a junior rider suffered concussion and was air lifted.

After five hours racing, just seconds can separate winners – in Clubman teams, just 4 seconds between 2nd & 3rd. Fastest Lap time went to Mitch Kellner (Ironman) at 13min22 sec closely followed by Tom Beck (winning expert Team) 13min 24sec! Average lap time around 15 minutes. Riders enjoy our tracks and we welcomed several new members, some we haven’t seen awhile and return of the faithful, along with their support crews. Some come to Denman the night before, many get up very early for the trek to Denman from Maitland, Newcastle, Dunedoo, Dubbo, Central Coast, Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Barrington, Sydney – and of course Muswellbrook, Singleton, Sandy Hollow & Denman ☺ Thank you – we appreciate the positive feedback given by riders!

Thank you’s:

• A huge THANKS to Jeff Wolfgang, Landholder for allowing us the use of his property.

• Denman Rotary kept up the steak sandwiches and “gourmet” egg & bacon rolls.

• St Johns Singleton for provision of First Aid, and

• Coates Hire portable toilets.

• Track preparations past weeks: Chris, Ned, Shad, Jed, Tony, Ivan, Richard and Amon

• Working Bee helpers on Saturday

• Race day - all our sweep riders John, Matt, Marty, Chris, Tony & Shad. Scorers Virginia, Sam, Beck, Jeanette, Natalie & Elisen and including those who helped roll up tapes and pack up at the end of a long day.

THANK YOU! We appreciate all help.

Extract President’s Report 2014

"We started the year with kick start & endorsement coaching for juniors, we held 3 x grasstrack motocross days, 3 x Pony Express & Junior Cross Country days and trials had 7 club days – including 3 “Ride What Ya Brung” days and 5 x twin shock trials. Plus we hosted the NSW titles for Classic & post Classic trials in July and Sprint / Cross Country in September.

The NSW Enduro series has been successful, and this year our 2015 club “Enduro Apprentice”  is Bailey Graham.

Our Congratulations to Jed Blackhall, Bailey Graham and Ned Chapman for their podium placings in the NSW Off Road Championships in 2014. In trials Kyle Middleton again took out Australian Open Champion, and Allan Phillipson the NSW Post Classic Trials Champion for 2014.

Our cross country events continue to be a success with an average of 80 riders turning up for our club days, and we had 102 entries for the 2 day NSW Titles.

At the start of the year, completely new tracks were put in with lots of great feedback from the riders. We built on this with Chris, Tony, Richo & Shad putting in the track marking for the state titles. The event went really well as always and we did our club proud. Thank you to all who helped.

Trials have had another good year of riding albeit small in numbers, averaging 20 riders. The introduction of “Run What Ya Brung” days has brought lots of positive feedback and bringing new riders back into the sport. Dedicated twin shock trials days are becoming more limited, with both the bikes and spares becoming rarer and therefore to keep the discipline alive – it is logical to re-open classes to more modern bikes. The 2 day NSW classic & post classic titles had only 36 entries, but those that came to Martindale had a great weekend – except one – who broke his leg – so this can happen at minimum forward motion!

On a sad note, we will miss Vi Bull who passed away in December. For 15 years Vi was one of those members who always volunteered to help, steadfast in her commitment to our sport. Rest in Peace Vi.

Our Grass Track days also attracted an average of 80 riders over the three we held, which included an interclub with Oyster Bay. We thank Gavin and Rosebrook Sand & Gravel for providing track watering for the first two of our grasstrack events.

We have more girls competing and with both GTMX and junior Xcountry we have been fielding all girls classes!

We continue to enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship with Martindale P&C who cater at our grasstrack days and Denman Rotary who cater at our Xcountry days – who in turn support all of our local schools, hospital and other worthy causes. This year St Josephs Denman catered for both NSW trials and Sprint title weekends.

Our club enjoys a strong partnership with St Johns Ambulance Singleton division, who provide us with first aid services - which is critical to our conduct of race meetings. In addition to our donations for event first aid provision, we also donated an additional $600 towards their purchase of a spinal board.

Besides operational expenses, we also purchased a UHF base unit for radio coms with excellent results. We also had new canopy & bow banner bags made.

I take the opportunity here to thank Joe Wilkins, our outgoing Treasurer for his commitment to our club since 1984, as Treasurer over past 10 years, section co-ordinator in various disciplines for 8 years prior and our club junior coach since the introduction of the kick start program in 2006, giving of his time at race days and always being one of the last to leave after packing up at race ends. Joe is a Life Member of our club, and has been a huge contributor to our club’s position and excellent reputation both within our community and in the motorcycling community at large.

Every year we harp on about officials, so last year we managed to host MNSW seminars, a Clerk of Course and a Race Secretary course, both well attended by locals and from surrounding clubs. But the pressure is still on, for officials to step up.

Our digital presence is working well. FaceBook continues to be a handy tool, now with 687 “Likes”. Our new website has had over 56,600 visits in 18 months.

Online early entries are generally doing well, with around 60% of entries taking advantage of the early entry discount. We recently created a new page on our website called “Am I Ride Ready” as a guide to help riders navigate the processes to try and kerb the many calls we take answering questions - to which the answers are already on our website.

Landholders are critical to our sporting pursuits and we can only continue to reiterate our gratitude for allowing us the continued use of their lands. But Land is our most pressing issue presently.

MNSW has recently updated their website to a new one, which will eventually take online licensing, permitting, etc. Junior licenses now have bike discipline & capacity endorsements on their licenses, and coaching is only required when a junior steps up a capacity. This has a twofold effect – it saves juniors doing annual coaching, but then reduces numbers needing coaching, making coaching days less viable.

Our 2014 membership is at around 350. Thanks again to our small bands of members who put in so much work to ensure that all we do is done well, is done with pride and is done in good spirit. Our hard work is rewarded by our excellent reputation for the quality of events we hold, our family friendly atmosphere and happy riders and support crews.

I thank our club secretary Elisen for the endless dedicated hours she puts in year round to ensure all the paperwork is done so the rest of us can ride. Thanks also to Joe our Treasurer and Coach, Megan our Trials coordinator, Jeff our Enduro co-ordinator and Amon our Motocross co-ordinator. Thanks for the efforts you have all contributed to help make our club great and also to all who come along on race days to marshal, score, observe, sweep and help pack up at days’ ends.

Here’s to another good year in motorcycling in 2015! Ivan H. Burkill, President 2014."

NSW 2014 SPRINT and XCOUNTRY TITLES R7-8 20_21SEPT14 X-Country: 08/01/2015

Denman MCC hosts final 2 rounds of 2014 Yamaha NSW Off Road Championships

The eastern side of Ogilvie’s hill had a splat of colour on its side for the weekend of 20&21 September 2014. Over 100 riders from all over NSW converged for the final 2 rounds of the 2014 Yamaha Off Road Championships at Denman. Sign on started 2.30pm on Friday. Presentations over around 2.30pm Sunday.

Saturday Juniors rode Sprint, Seniors Cross Country. Sunday Seniors did the Sprint and Juniors did the Cross Country on the tracks set on “Spur Hill MVRG”. The natural terrain tracks incorporating at times challenging riding through varying terrain: rocky, grassy, forested, drop-offs, open and technical sections. For the Cross Country, riders complete the most laps they can in their allocated times. For sprint, riders are seeded from fastest to slowest, set off individually at 30 second intervals and timed to 10th second for the 6km cross country loop. Each heat they are re-seeded, total time accumulated, the shortest time takes the title at the end of the day. Timing was with electronic transponders, which captured each rider at start and end of each track. Over the weekend, combined distance ridden (excluding sweeps) was around 11,000 km!

Overall the riders had a great weekend, albeit very dusty and tiring! Many riders complimented the club’s members on the great tracks, which were enjoyable, yet technical enough to sort the challengers for the titles. Also feedback on the smooth running of the weekend was shared along with general friendly and sociable atmosphere. These gatherings are not only for the riding, but also to catch up with your “riding family”, a reunion which is enjoyed by kids and adults alike. It was particularly pleasing to see the juniors waiting for each other at the ends, shaking hands and sharing experiences.

At presentations the riders were very articulate expressing their appreciation and gratitude especially to the Landholder Jeff Wolfgang, the Denman club members for all their work in track preparations and the running of the event – from sweeps, timekeepers and helpers, to their fellow riders for the competition – to the NSW Enduro Committee for running the series, St John Ambulance first aid and St Joseph’s Denman for catering. Many juniors thanked extensive lists of sponsors and especially their parents for bringing them to the events. Most seniors thanked their families for their support – one his wife for allowing him to buy a new bike – the next one promising to love his wife more if she lets HIM buy a new bike!

Overall the weekend was a great success – testament to our good reputation and hard work to ensure all goes as well as it possibly can. As a club, we can only express HUGE THANKS to the Landholder, our members, organisations and businesses who have contributed to ensuring the success it was! Not forgetting to mention all the riders, their pit crews, supporters and spectators! Landholder Jeff Wolfgang without whose generosity in allowing us the use of his land, we would have no venue to host this event.

Thank you! Members: Tony, Chris, Shad & Richo for hundreds of hours spent over a many weeks marking the tracks. Virginia for organizing helper rosters, posters, the catering by St Joseph’s P&F and Sprint starter extraordinaire! Elisen Race Secretary endless hours with permits, track licensing, entries and booking supplies/ers. Clerk of Course Ivan Burkill. Sweeps Tony, Chris, Shad, John, Marty, Andrew, Amon, Richard, James and Mitchell. NSW Enduro Committee for provision of electronic scoring (Steve & Treena); Lord Danny Graham, Scrutineer and especially Jan, our Steward for the weekend and supporter and mentor. St Johns Ambulance volunteers for also giving up their weekend to provide first aid support. Unfortunately we did get a few injuries including two serious, but both are on the path to recovery. St Joseph’s P&F for running the catering from dawn til dusk – a fantastic set up with great variety of food on offer – including hot chips! Thank you all the Mums & Dads for giving up your weekend as well.

Motorcycling NSW and NSW Dept Sport & Recreation for assistance to get permits and licences in place for the event. Coates Hire – toilets. JR Richards & Sons – skip bin. Comprint – arrows. Denman Motor Inn – accommodation for officials.

Our Denman boys fared pretty well: Ned Chapman 2nd Sprint, 3rd Cross Country J1 Class (85cc 9-11yo). Bailey Graham 3rd both Sprint & Cross Country J2B (85cc 14-15yo). Jed Blackall 3rd Sprint and 2nd Cross Country J4 (15yo 125/250F). Mark Blake 2nd both Cross Country & Sprint Expert Veterans (35+). Dungog lad Jacob Peacock took out 2nd both days in the Pro 16-19yo class. There were also several (non local) members who also featured in podium positions – David, Courtney, Holly, Simon, Brittany, Craig, Mitch, Tom, Andrew, Blaine, Ben & Sean. Full results are available at www.mylaps.com.

NSW Sprint and XC Jnr and Snr R7+8 this weekend X-Country: 16/09/2014

Our club is pleased to host the final two rounds of the Sprint and Cross Country championship series, as part of the Australian Off-Road Championships this weekend 20/21sept14.

The event will be hosted at “Spur Hill MVRG”, Jerrys Plains Road, Denman. Held entirely on private property, riders will be taking on track of varying cross-country terrain, fitted with electronic timing, over two days. The event has attracted around 100 junior and senior riders from across the state to vie for the title. Three of our local boys (Jed Blackhall, Ned Chapman & Bailey Graham) have been competing throughout the year around the state, at Buladelah, Portland, Tarcutta and Kyogle and will be looking for a good result on home ground.

Riding starts on Saturday at 8.30 a.m. and finishes Sunday afternoon. Presentations for this round will be held after the event on Sunday, and the Series Championship presentations will be held later in the year.

We thank the Landholder Jeff Wolfgang for the privilege to use his land to host this prestigious event; the members who have spent months preparing tracks for the event, officials who organise the paperwork required, St John Ambulance for provision of First Aid, Motorcycling NSW and the NSW Enduro Committee. Also St Joseph’s P&F Denman who will be catering over the entire weekend with yummy BBQ, slices and drinks. Spectators are welcome.

GRASSTRACKMX FATHERS DAY 07SEPT14 Grass Track: 16/09/2014

Happy Fathers Day at Denman Grasstrack

Father’s Day 7th September, 2014 - sixty-four riders signed on for a fun day at the Glen Munro MVRG natural terrain grasstrack motocross.

Rain in the lower Hunter and elsewhere kept some away (who assumed it would be off) but we attracted a few new faces who found out we had a day on. The 30mm rain we had a week ago with a few light showers since, made track conditions great at the start. But by end of second heat it got dusty! Thankfully the wind kept the dust at bay – gives a whole new appreciation for a warm shower when you get home! We got practice plus four heats in and finished by 4pm. Competition was healthy with a grid average of 13 for seniors and 7 for juniors. Sportsmanship in the juniors was pleasing to witness – riders stopping at race ends to shake hands – well done! Our female competition is growing – we had 9 girls and 3 ladies competing. All the fossils (O’35&45) finished and all juniors bar one (junior & dad, had to leave early for father’s day commitment) and two seniors DNF’d (did not finish) due to bike problems. A good day overall. Orange seemed to be a popular colour (47%) followed by Red (27%), Green (15%) and Blue (11%).

We had several families racing where dad & sons/daughters were competing in their respective classes. Power to the O’Hara family – Mum, Dad and 3 of 4 kids racing! Placings 6th, 3rd, 5th, 9th and Demo – congratulations! Other family teams: Dad Gary & sons Broc & Jason; Jason & Matthew; Matt & Adam; Ricky, Tyler, Cody & Nate; Jeremy & Rylan; Paul, Mitchell & Patrick; Luke, Bradley & Bailey; Adam, Blake & Isobel and Nigel & Brandon. Plus riders Tom, James, Lachlan, Brittany & Courtney, Ned & Larnie, Amon and Blaine also had their dads/ mums helping with marshaling and scoring. A great family day!

One dad: “the day was fantastic! It was the perfect Fathers Day, we all had a great day plenty of racing and completely worn out when we got home, it doesn’t get much better. Thanks again for a great day!”

Thank you all for making Denman part of your race calendar – this was our last club day for 2014. Just one injury for the day – de ja vu – first race of day, same corner as last time – but this time straight back on the bike to race all day! Thank you St john Ambulance Singleton for first aid provision.

Thank you Wolfgang family for allowing us the use of your land – we all appreciate the privilege. Martindale P&C – also big thanks for your support throughout 2014 – we believe it has been mutually beneficial – assisting a small school with fundraising. Thank you also to all who helped roll up bunting and pack up at the end of the day.

Pony express & Junior Cross Country 3rd August, 2014
Almost Spring-like a cool Winter\'s morning for our last club pony express & junior cross country for this year at Spur Hill. A great day was had by 65 riders - 30mm rain a week ago had track conditions perfect, the cooler air good for 5 hours of riding!
We welcomed some new members who have never tried this before - they had so much fun they\'re coming back! While we are a Denman club, a large part of our membership do come from quite some distance - many coming up the night before, staying in town; others getting up as early as 4 or 5 a.m. to arrive in time for sign on - many regulars we love to see, who clearly love the events we hold!
Thank you to Jeff Wolfgang for generously allowing us the use of his land in our sporting pursuit. A cross country event, courses are set in the bush - of varying terrain. 8km junior track with 4km cut-off for the 65cc bikes and another separate track 12km long for the seniors. Riders start in mass class starts and ride for set times, doing as many laps as they can in that time - those achieving most laps in that time are the winners! Just riding for a ribbon - no sheep stations! 65cc = 1 1/2 hours, 85cc = 2 hrs, junior lites = 2 1/2 hrs; Seniors: Ironman = 4 hrs solo, Teams = 5 hrs shared riding. Riders were aged 10 to 64 - great to see families coming along, including Dads riding pony express while their kids are riding the junior event (also some with sons riding seniors!). About a quarter of the track was new and challenging - great for those getting some last minute practice in before the Australian 4 Day Enduro (Australian Titles) which is being hosted by Dungog MCC from 11-16 August. Hard to believe it\'s been 20 years since Denman hosted the A4DE in 1994!
Also a big thank you for Denman Rotary for catering at all our Spur Hill events - a mutually beneficial relationship which ultimately benefits our Denman Community from generous donations Denman Rotary makes annually to our schools, hospital and many worthy charities.
Thank you St Johns Ambulance volunteers for dispensing Band-aids for blisters. No injuries reported! Thanks as always for provision of first aid service. No reported injuries - but many a bruised & grazed and stiff & sore - all for funzees . . .
Thank you to the officials, sweep riders, scorers and course setters. Thank you to those who stayed back and helped us pack up at the end of another long day! And thank you riders, families for coming to our club day!
Upcoming events:
Twin Shock Trials - 27th August

INTERCLUB GT MX OBMCC 13JUL14 Grass Track: 26/07/2014

Interclub Grass Track Motocross 13th July, 2014

A hundred riders ready to ride at Glen Munro MVRG on Sunday morning 13th July for an interclub grass track motocross with Oyster Bay MCC (Sydney based club) at Glen Munro MVRG.

First there’s the paperwork (sign on) then the practice (sight) laps . . . it was almost 11 a.m. before the first race started. Unfortunately an inured rider in the first heat in the expert class halted activities until evacuated by ambulance (feedback is no broken bones, so hopes to recover for the A4DE – Australian 4 Day Enduro at Dungog next month!).

The track was nice and damp after track watering all day Saturday (loads of water!) but was getting dusty as the day progressed – thankfully the breeze kept the dust from hanging about. Classs were run as per Oyster Bay, so no availability for extra class for seniors (disapointing for many riders). With eleven classes (and injury hold up) we only managed 3 heats for the day. We had 7 in the 50cc demo class - the little ones putting in big efforts – keenly waiting their turn for their next heat! We also had 7 girls to make up an 85cc girls class and also girls/ladies in other junior and senior classes. There were also several families with dad and kid/s riding. We had a great day overall.

We thank Landholders Wolfgang Family for allowing us to use this property to host the event. Martindale P&C kept the good food coming. St Johns Ambulance volunteers provided first aid service. Thank you Gavin Stocks for dedicating your Saturday to track watering and to Rosebrook Sand & Gravel for the provision of the watering truck. Coates Muswellbrook toilet hire.

To Oyster Bay MCC thank for coming to Denman! To the members who attended the working bee for course and pit set-up, to all who marshaled, scored and helped pack up at the end of the day THANK YOU. To all the riders, support crews and spectators thank you!

2014 NSW TST TRIALS TITLES 5_6JUL14 Trials: 12/07/2014

Denman Motor Cycle Club hosts 2014 NSW Classic & post Classic Trials Championships on 5&6 July, 2014.
In the beautiful Martindale valley at \"The Ranch\" trials riders converged to contest the 2014 NSW Classic & Post Classic Trials Championship Title.
Local Rider Allan Phillipson reigned supreme for NSW on his 1979 Bultaco 250cc machine taking the title from Queensland.
Denman hosted riders from Victoria, ACT, NSW and Queensland. Several father & son/s rode the weekend and spectators came out to watch the guys and gals do their best.
Trials is a sport of skill where riders navigate set routes through marked sections, incurring points for \"footing\", stopping or riding outside set course. The sections traversed challenging terrain - rocks, logs, sharp turns, drop downs and hill climbs. Seven sections x 7 laps day one then another seven sections x 5 laps Sunday. At the end of the two days the rider with the least points - wins!
Incredibly, after two days defending Junior Champion Bailey Boniface lost zero points! Congratulations!.
Several Denman members also competed in the event: Denman boy Ned Chapman took out 3rd in junior the class with sister Larnie also putting in an excellent effort. Col Phlilpson came 2nd in the Classic (pre 1965) class and Mal Chapman 2nd in the A grade Post Classic Class (aka \"Twin Shock\" pre 1985), Harley Pickett 3rd in A Grade and Andrew Johnson competed in C grade.
The Denman Motor Cycle Club would like to thank the Landholders Bruce & Sam Sykes for allowing us to host this event on their property. Denman St Joseph\'s P&F for feeding the hordes for two days. St Johns Ambulance (Singleton) for provision of First Aid (unfortunately a Clubman rider required their services after breaking his leg on Saturday afternoon). Also to our Steward Bob McGlinchy (from Sydney), Clerk of Course Ivan Burkill, Scrutineer Geoff Grist, Race Secretary and scoring Elisen Burkill & Megan Phillips. To over 20 \"observers\" - officials who monitor the riders in each section & mark their cards - you are the backbone of this sport THANK YOU! Of course the riders and their support crews THANK YOU for coming to Denman!
Results (full reults go to results page):
A Grade: 1 Allan Phillipson 2 Malcolm Chapman 3 Harley Pickett
B Grade 1 Greg Harding 2 Jarad Boniface (son of) 3 Gary Boniface
C Grade: 1 David Wynn (ACT) 2 Darryl Boorer 3 Trevor Bennett
Classic (pre 1965): 1 Geoff Lewis (VIC) 2 Col Phillipson
Clubman: 1 Paul Nelson (grandfather of) 2 Joshua Spencer & 3 Dale Spencer
Junior: 1 Bailey Boniface 2 Marcus Velarde 3 Ned Chapman
Encouragement Awards: Donna Woods (Lady Clubman) and Ambrose Farquhar (Junior riding Clubman lines placed 4th)

PonyX + JuniorXC 22jun14 Pony X: 24/06/2014

Denman Motor Cycle Club Pony Express & Junior Cross Country 22nd June, 2014

Just one day past the winter solstice and a glorious fine day at Spur Hill cross country track at Denman. Track was in great shape – damp, but got dusty in places by end of day. 46 seniors and 22 juniors started the day and welcome to new members. Feedback has been excellent “Great event today, thanks to all involved. Will be back.” ”Thanks for the awesome day guys. I don\'t think I have ever been this tired!”

The juniors all had a great day! Enough girls to run a junior girl’s 85/125 class! The 65cc class rode the 4km junior track for 1 ½ hours before the bigger junior bikes then rode the 8km junior track – the 85’s for 2 hours and the lites another ½ hour (total 2 ½ hours). All juniors finished. Riders ride to their ability, with the rider completing most laps in allocated time, the winner – often mere minutes separating top riders in each class.

In seniors, all over 35’s finished. One ironman dnf’d due to injury (broken? ribs), One expert team who were coming second, broke one bike, but that’s OK it’s a pony express so they shared the second bike – but then they broke it, too….DNF….. and two other teams just had had enough and Did Not Finish. In the senior ironman class, the top 4 riders finished within 2 minutes after 4 hours solo riding – an average 18m12s per lap, including refueling – except one, who did not refuel … luckily running out literally metres past the finish line!

Pony Express teams have two riders sharing the riding for 5 hours, usually on two bikes – should one bike fail, they can continue, sharing the remaining bike. The experts teams provided an interesting day: the leading team led most of the day – 3 flat tyres and man flu hampering their style, but reclaimed first place in the last lap; one team running second till they busted both their bikes and dnf’d; and the team eventually taking a close second place were just 28 seconds short after racing 5 hours and 19 laps! Average lap time 16m26s. Fastest lap was Dylan Rose (expert) 15m19s! Commiserations to one regular ironman who got up early from Sydney, started his bike for sight lap & discovered his radiator had developed a split…. no riding today....

We are always grateful to the Landholder Jeff Wolfgang for allowing us use of his land in the pursuit of our sport and pastime! Denman Rotary for their BBQ catering the hungry. St Johns Singleton for providing First Aid (one recorded injury – senior rider with broken? ribs). All our members who prepare the courses and pits prior to race day; members who spend the day sweep riding and timekeeping & scoring; to all who help roll up tapes, collect pegs and pack up at the end of the day. And to all the riders who enjoy coming to Denman for a ride and their support crews as well! Thank You!

Mud on their smiling Faces

Grasstrack Motocross on Sunday 1st June. First day of winter. Not cold. Forecast of some rain. Track was watered Saturday afternoon, as dry conditions meant track was dry (despite coastal rains). Sun is out during sign on.

Got practice done and towards end of second heat it started to sprinkle ….. general consensus after consulting riders and weather map was that they wanted to keep riding for at least another heat. The track got a bit slippy, and the little 50’s and some 60’s collected mud on their tyres until they jammed up on the mudguards and needed help! The rest of the juniors and seniors had fun – albeit with mud on their faces. Big smiles and whoops meant they were having fun at the grasstrack-turned-mud scramble. By end of 3rd heat it started getting too wet, so called it a day. Sky was clearing as presentations were happening. Thanks to those who helped us roll up tapes, collect stakes, etc before going home.

59 riders started the day 26/30 juniors and 24/29 seniors completed all 3 heats. Two juniors DNF due to injury, one bike with broken clutch lever (Dad will now carry some bike spares!) and the rest weren’t too keen on the wetter conditions. We had one lady and 6 girls racing and they rode well, including the smallest of all – Danielle (aged 5) on her JR 50!

As always there are people to thank who contribute to our event’s success: The Wolfgang Family for use of their land; Martindale P&C for great food J , the volunteers who marshaled (even in the rain!), the scorers (fun getting bike numbers covered in mud), Intercept Medical for first aid, the few who came to Saturday’s Working Bee to set up and of course all the Riders and their entourage for participating. THANK YOU!

Mother’s Day 11th May, 2014 at Glen Munro MVRG

Six a.m. - it’s raining and the phone is ringing hot – is it still on? We’ve had 5mm and the weather map shows a puff of cloud passing over to clear…

Indeed it did clear into a fine day. The newly marked tracks are a bit greasy for the sight lap – taking a bit longer than expected, so the race time was cut back half hour to 4 ½ hours instead of 5. Rotary made good trade with bacon & egg rolls & coffee first thing and 75 riders queued up for sign on including 31 juniors.

Local riders were challenged in competition by riders coming from Lithgow, Wauchope, Sunbury (Vic), Orange, Dungog, Tamworth, Hunter, Central Coast & Greater Sydney. Thanks for coming to Denman!

Lots of help with sweep riders, scorers and packing up at the end helped the day run very smoothly although it was almost dark by the time we got back to town to unload. Thank you especially to all the Mums who helped score or helped look after their family in the pits (& a bit of choccy was nice too!)

It was exciting to have 5 girls in the 85cc class – forming a class of their own! And in seniors Brittany & Tom outright winners consistent 16minute laps x 17 over 4 ½ hours in the Pony Express and Mitch Ironman winner 13 laps in 3h39min = ave 17 minute laps solo including refueling – made it look too easy! Even over 35 class winners averaged 17 min 40sec. Overall it was a pretty good day had by all!

Completely new tracks were put in this year and the track conditions were excellent with lots of great feedback from the riders including “what an awesome new track yesterday, so much fun, thank you for all your hard work”.

Thank you Landholder Jeff Wolfgang for allowing us to ride on your property! Thank you Denman Rotary for providing great food all day and to St Johns First Aid volunteers. One junior with injured wrist.

Bad news .... have to cancel grass track for this Sunday. Have inspected venue this afternoon - track is waterlogged, access is inaccessible and forecast for more rain next couple of days. Sorry!

At this stage we will not be re-scheduling this event. Calendar stands.

Coming up: 27th April we\'re running a \"run what ya brung\" trials day and the first Pony Express / Junior Cross Country will be on 11th May.

Interclub Grass Track 22sept13 Grass Track: 11/10/2013

Still September but like a summer’s day! Temperature almost 30 degrees, and virtually no rain since June. We did get 28mm a week prior …and even with two runs watering the track on Saturday, it was still pretty dusty. 88 riders came for our last grass track for 2013, an interclub with Sydney-based club Oyster Bay MCC. A slight intermittent breeze helped clear the dust.

Overall, we managed 4 heats plus practice, and all up only 8/88 did not finish the day. Unfortunately three of them left in ambulances (2 broken collarbones & one compound arm fracture), plus one other junior minor injury. We hope for a speedy recovery for all. Thank you to St Johns Ambulance volunteers for their attendance and professional assistance to the injured.

Again we had several girls & ladies racing and doing well too, amongst their male adversaries. Also dads & kids, siblings & cousins share their passion for racing. And to the support crews who come along to pit crew or watch, thank you.

Martindale P&C crew catered all day with yummy tucker – thank you!

Thank you to the Marshals out on the track all day, the Starters, Clerk of Course, Scrutineers, Steward, Race Secretary and especially the Scorers – your help is invaluable. Thank you Riders; Melinda Fripp for photos! and thanks to all who helped pack up at days’ end as well. Thank you David / Yarrawa Ridge Gravel Supplies for track watering! Biggest THANK YOU to Landholders Jeff & Mark Wolfgang families for the privilege to use their land to host these events.

It’s been a good year, despite the dry. 3 x Pony Express / Junior Cross Country, 3 x Grass Track Motocross, 1 x NSW Enduro Titles, 1 x NSW Classic&Post-Classic Trials and the 6th club twinshock trial to come (20.10.13).

See you all again in 2014 :) and Pray for Rain!

Pony Express & Junior Cross Country 18th August, 2013.

Our last pony express & junior cross country for 2013 was held on Sunday 18th August at Spur Hill MVRG. A clear cool morning with wedge-tail eagles soaring overhead, 62 riders signed up for a fun day on the natural terrain cross country courses. We noted there were several father/son and brothers teams, one brother even travelling from Melbourne to ride. Riders who complete the most laps in their set times reign victorious - Pony Express 5 hours, Ironman 4 hours solo on 12km senior track, Junior 65cc 1.5 hours on 4km junior cut-off track & 85cc / lites go 2 hours on 8km junior track.

One rider sums up the general feedback: \"Great Day at the Pony Express Sun 18th. Many thanks to the land owners and everyone behind the scenes that make these days happen.\"

We thank LANDHOLDER Jeff Wolfgang for the privilege to ride on his land.Denman Rotary for catering at our Spur Hill events - always good! St Johns Ambulance for provision of first aid throughout the year. Two injuries - during practice a senior managed to dislocate his shoulder, and on first lap another rider came off hard on his knee, but completed the 5hr day!

We thank Jeff Richardson and members who prepare the course, set up on Saturday afternoon and pack up Sunday after it\'s over. To the key officials (steward, clerk of course, scrutineer, and race secretary), sweep riders and scoring teams also a HUGE thank you. It\'s a constant job which requires focus. To the pit crews and spectators who support their riders, thank you also! Thanks for coming to Denman.

A long day, the weather was fine and the track held together fairly well, thanks to track watering on Saturday by Gavin Stocks & Rosebrook Sand & Gravel – Thank You. Martindale P&C kept the great food coming, selling out by end of day – thanks again! St Johns Ambulance thank you for provision of First Aid. A special thank you to LANDHOLDERS Jeff & Mark Wolfgang & families for the privilege to use your land to hold our events. Also to all the marshals, starters and officials and to all who helped pack up at days’ end.

It is always great to have families come to support their riding family member/s including a whole family who all rode - Mum, Dad and 4 x juniors! Twin Shock 2013 NSW Titles 21jul13 Trials: 24/07/2013

State of Origin in Moto-Trials at Giants Creek

Sunday 21st July a cool but fine day greeted riders from Queensland, Victoria, ACT and across NSW at Giants Creek for the 2013 NSW Classic & Post Classic Trials Championships. Bikes all being ‘twin shock’ pre 1985 motorcycles with riders aged 10 to 81 years old!

43 starters including seven juniors took on the seven sections by seven rounds ranging from very tricky (A grade) to easy (juniors). Skill, not speed is the name of the sport, navigating rocks, logs and slopes – a great spectator sport. Judging from the feedback, all had a great day, albeit some with bruises and some ’bark’ off. All but one of the twin shock bikes made it through the day, with some going through spark plugs like chocolate!

The day was a great success thanks to Landholders Mal & Sharon Chapman, and members of our club for setting up the sections. A big thank you to event sponsors Hollydene Motors, Muswellbrook Nissan, Tyrepower, Auto One, Coates Hire and Dunlop Tyres. Also to St Johns Ambulance, Mudgee for first aid (nil required).

Competition was excellent and many locals came to watch the exciting rides. Australian Trials Champion Kyle Middleton came and did some demonstration riding on his (modern) Gas Gas. Some spectators were thoroughly gob-smacked, watching Kyle ride up sheer rock faces, ‘hopping’ from rock to rock and making 360 turns without putting his feet down – absolute balance and control!

Riders lose points for “footing” (1 per contact, max 3 points) and max 5 points for stopping or not staying within designated section At the end of the day 3 of the 6 classes had placings with ties. Two got sorted with a ‘clean’ countback (rider with most cleans – i.e. ‘zero’ scores, takes the higher placing), but the A grade top riders lost just one point all day each, requiring a ‘shoot out’ ride-off. A difficult section was set, each rider getting three attempts ….. like the State of Origin, one a Queenslander, the other a NSWelshman …. Tied again. One more section, and the Queenslander prevailed! Awesome riding!

There were many riders who travelled long distances: 9 from Qld including near Rockhampton, 4 from the ACT and 4 from Victoria. Bikes: quite a few Yamaha TY’s, some Hondas, Triumphs, Bultaco’s, a couple of Montesa’s and only one each BSA Bantam, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Italjet. Remember – the youngest bike was 38 (1985) and the oldest a 1956 Triumph Cub – that’s 58 years (way younger than the oldest rider)!

In many sports you will find 2 x generations participating, but it’s rare for 3 x generations to be participating in the same sport ….. a family of three generations participated here: Grandad Les, Dad Gary & sons Jarad & Bailey Boniface from Kiama. Les, Gary & Bailey took out 1st place in their classes (Clubman, B Grade & Junior) and Jarad came 4th in B grade just missing 3rd on a ‘clean countback’ – Jarad had 39 ‘cleans’ and 3rd place had 40 ‘cleans’. Les, at 81 (YES – 81 years of age) “whooped” the other riders in his class who were well younger than half his age! Les lost just 2 points all day (yes – that’s just two ‘footings’ in 49 sections!). Congratulations to all the riders and thank you all for coming to Denman club!

Junior Endorsement Deadline 01aug13 Juniors: 16/07/2013

Juniors – Licence Endorsement Deadline 1st August 2013

As per 2013 Manual of Motorcycle Sport (MOMS) all junior licences must have their endorsement listed on their licence. From 1AUG13 endorsement MUST be noted on the plastic MA licence. Simply having it noted in Logbook cannot be accepted. JUNIORS - Check your licence for endorsement. For detailed info go to: http://www.motorcycling.com.au/PDF_Files/News/n_2013juniorcoachingchanges_240112.pdf

Effective 01/01/2013, the MA Board approved changes to the Junior Coaching Program. The revised rules now provide for competency testing of junior riders to ensure they are able to properly handle the capacity sized bike they wish to ride. The need for annual coaching has been removed, as the competency will last for as long as the junior rider is participating on that sized machine. In addition, the competency is discipline based with disciplines grouped together. What that means is that if a rider wishes to compete in a different discipline to that endorsed on their licence a further competency test is required.

3.8

3.8.0.1 – To obtain a competition licence, junior riders (7- under 16) (mini and junior riders, 4-under 16 in NSW only) must:

  1. Undertake a minimum of 5 hours of coaching by an accredited motorcycle sport coach in the required modules (kick start) and
  2. Complete the written assessment

3.8.0.2 – Prior to a junior progressing to a larger capacity motorcycle, a competency based assessment must be conducted under the tuition of an accredited coach and under a coaching permit to assess whether the rider is competent to ride the next sized machine.

3.8.0.3 – The rider must be endorsed upon the competition licence with the appropriate level of endorsement.

3.8.0.4 – Endorsements will be issued for

  • 50cc 2 stroke
  • 65cc 2 stroke/ 125cc 4 stroke
  • 85cc 2 stroke/ 150cc 4 stroke
  • 200cc 2 stroke
  • 250cc 4 stroke
  • 350cc 4 stroke (speedway only)

A rider endorsed on any capacity is permitted to ride any capacity machine up to and including the capacity of the level of their endorsement and within the class/age allowance within these rules.

Any rider endorsed upon a 125cc 2 stroke will receive the 200cc endorsement enabling them to participate on that machine subject to the above rule.

3.8.0.5 – A rider wishing to compete in the following disciplines or upon the listed machines below must undertake a one off competency assessment by an accredited motorcycle sport coach on those respective machines:

  • Road Race (including Supermoto)
  • Slider (including Speedway and Dirt Track/ Track Slider machines)
  • Off Road (including MX, MK, DT, Trials and Enduro)
  • Sidecar passenger or rider

Twin Shock Trials Round3 8-9jun13 Trials: 02/07/2013

Twinshock Trials Round 3 2 Day Trial 8th & 9th June, 2013

DMCC held their third twinshock trials round for the year at the Cowan’s property at Sandy Hollow on the 8-9th June with the sponsor for the trial being Process Electrics.

The long weekend started with a plethora of people giving up there time to help set-up on the Friday. This involved an adventurous task of clearing some area which had not been used for at least 10 years so that three of the five sections could be laid out. By late Friday afternoon the sections were laid out ready for the competition on Saturday.

Saturday started with a drizzle which spread from the east coast all the way west beyond the Hunter Valley. The wet start was something we are not used to at our trials and we were all lacking a little enthusiasm to get going. But by 1000hrs the Pom had invigorated the 25 riders with his kind words of encouragement and we were off to tackle the wet rocks. The combination of wet rocks and detritus made traction an interesting issue. By lunchtime the rain had stopped, the rocks had dried up and we were starting to get grip. By the end of the day there were some tired bikes and very sore bodies making their way to arranged accommodation before doing it all again on Sunday.

Day 2 the sun was shining and we were all ready to go. The sections were a little easier which, was a great relief to all of the tired bodies. Even so, there were still a number of riders that thought observing was a better option that going through it all over again.

The winner of A grade over the two days was the Flare Man, Toby. B grade was dominated by Mr Sherpa T, Greg and the victor of C grade was the brilliant Beau. The king of Clubman went once again to Josh and the almost flawless ride of Marcus always proving hard to beat in the juniors.

PonyX + Junior XCountry 23JUN13 Pony X: 01/07/2013

Just past the winter solstice and forecast 90% chance of rain all day, between the horse riders and motorcycle riders, there were enough prayers said to keep the rain at bay. No rain but cold and miserable at times with the track being a little dusty in places. Denman Rotary have the egg & bacon rolls and the coffee on. 83 riders signed up for a natural terrain cross country day at Spur Hill. Got though the day well, with presentations over by 4.30pm.

Our club, riders and support crews thank Jeff Wolfgang for allowing us to ride on his property, Denman Rotary for catering and St Johns Ambulance for provision of First Aid.

18 juniors had a great day on the junior cross country track and 65 seniors participated in the pony express with only one clubman team and one Ironman DNF’ing (did not finish). How good is that?? No juniors injured, but two seniors were, and a couple of bikes failed the reliability test, but the teams could continue sharing the remaining performing bikes to finish. We also thank course setter Jeff Richardson, working bee helpers on Saturday, the sweep riders and scorers for their part in ensuring the day ran a success. Also to all who helped pack up in the fading light. Thanks and see you again next time :)

PonyX + Junior XCountry 26MAY13 Pony X: 04/06/2013
This time it wasn't the wedge-tail eagles hovering overhead, but a helicopter flying grid-wise over Spur Hill towing a net "fishing" for coal or CSG on Saturday afternoon while just a small band of four members prepared the pit area and finalised course marking for our club day on 26th May. The helicopter was actually geo-physi mapping the subterranean ground for - coal & CSG.
Sunday morning the crisp air gave way to a beautiful fine day for 99 riders to participate in our club pony express & junior cross country. We had a very strong junior contingent (35) which is very pleasing - juniors are the future of our sport. There were enough girls in the 85cc class to form a girls class! The event is a natural terrain cross country event, where places go to riders who complete most laps in allocated time. Ironman class ride solo for 4 hours. Pony Express is 2-person teams where riding is shared to complete 5 hours racing over 12km course. 1st Outright Expert team did 19 laps in 5:01:43 hours Nick Stockwell & Jon Carroll. Junior 65cc rode 1 1/2 hours, 4km course; 85cc 8km over 2 hours and junior lites rode 2 1/2 hours on 8 km course. Great sportsmanship was displayed by 85cc junior rider Billy Hammond who stopped to help fellow riders on the course.
To be able to participate at an event which is family friendly and fosters friendship and sportsmanship is great. We had many riders travel up to 2 1/2 hours to be here in our beautiful valley, enjoying the sport they love and the atmosphere of our events. Thank you all for coming to Denman!
The day went well despite sign-on taking 2 1/2 hours about 1 hour more than it should, due to high number of day licences issued (very time consuming) and club memberships. After 5 hours of racing, the sun was slipping behind Spur Hill as presentations were being held. A long day but a good one.
Denman Rotary also had a busy day feeding everyone, and St. John's had a relatively quiet day, tending one junior with a severely corked thigh and one senior with a broken collar-bone (completed lap he crashed on, walking to first aid tent for treatment!). At presentation the riders expressed their thanks to the landholder Jeff Wolfgang for allowing us to ride on his land, and to our club for a great track and event (several also had sponsors to thank, and Mums and Dads for bringing them here).
Despite virtual drought conditions here, with just 10mm rain in the week prior to event, the track held together well with little dust. Lots of people helped pack up at day's end which was greatly appreciated, albeit it was almost dark by the time we closed the gate and left for home, vehicles loaded (to be unloaded, sorted & stowed for next event over next day or so).

Report Interclub Grass Track Mother’s Day 12th May, 2013
Many Mums were taken for a “day out” with their offspring at Glen Munro MVRG, Denman last Sunday. A day out at the Denman & Cessnock Interclub Natural Terrain Grasstrack Motocross day. Mums helped marshal, score, pit crew, first aid and cater at the race day – to you all a very special thank you! You are the best! And to the Mums who let their loved ones spend the day doing what they love – thank you, too!
Ninety-five riders belonging to both Denman & Cessnock clubs, coming from both near and up to several hours’ drive away – had a fun day. 10 grids, mostly full, 4 heats plus practice, riders had a great day (though some may have some aching muscles they forgot they had!). It was great to see 37 juniors and 48 seniors including eight girls and one lady participating, even a few dads dusted off their bikes for some natural terrain action with their sons! The day went really well thanks to the combined efforts of many:
Working bee attendees – slashing, marking course & pit set up
Marshals, starter, scorers, officials
All who helped pack up after the day
Landholders Jeff & Mark Wolfgang Families
Rosebrook Sand & Gravel – extensive track watering for 2 days prior to event – the track held together well despite our current drought condition. Special thanks to Gavin Stocks for again spending his time in the interest of our sporting pursuit!
Martindale P&C awesome catering
St Johns Ambulance providers of First Aid (2 x minor injuries reported).
Riders & support crews for participating and helping make the day so excellent with healthy competition and good-natured comraderie.
THANK YOU!

Twin Shock Trials R1 140413 Trials: 14/05/2013
DMCC held their first twinshock trials round for the year at the Chapman’s property at Yarrawa on 14th April, with the sponsor for the trial being the Lyall family in memory of Andrew Lyall who tragically passed away in 2008.
A cold start greeted us in the morning, which quickly warmed up to a noticeable 30 degrees by midday and commented on by many of the 30 riders who turned up for the event. The flowing sections were brilliantly set-up by Harley and the Pom consisting of a mixture of rocks and loamy soil. This resulted in some interesting situations when grip was provided at the most inappropriate time. One of the greatest mental challenges for the day was remembering which track to take to get to the next section layed out on the spectacular hillside of the Chapman property.
There were a total of 5 juniors riding all sorts of twinshocks from Ty80’s to Ty175’s and a Montessa. The common bike of choice for seniors also appeared to be the TY but in most cases it was the 175. No one knows exactly where they all came from but for once they out numbered the Bultaco contingent. Some of the other bikes for the day included: Montessa, Suzuki, BSA, Triumph Cub, Italjet, Bultaco M10 and an Ossa.
The winner of A grade was Geoff, but he did pay the price for the victory with a hole in the petrol tank along with losing the exhaust silencer. The tough fight in B grade went to Brian who only edged out Greg by 2 points. The battle for B grade supremacy will be the one to watch closely throughout the year.
Terry just managed to nudge out Wal by the narrowest of margins to take victory in C grade. If Wal has the opportunity to get to a few more events this year, there is a very good chance that the tables may be turned. Clubman had quite a number of new faces but, as always Ms Smooth convincingly won the day.
It was great to see so many juniors for the day all having a great time and showing many of the seniors how it is done. Ned narrowly nudged newcomer Marcus to take victory for the day. For his fine efforts Marcus was also awarded the Andrew Lyall memorial trophy for the most improved junior of the day.

Our next trial will be held on 19th May at Betts property at Yarrawa. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.... will the TY’s still dominate at this trial????
Like the photos???.....dust the old twinshock off and join us!
NSW Enduro Titles 20-21.4.13 General: 03/05/2013
Yamaha NSW State Enduro Championships Rounds 1 & 2 hosted by Denman MCC 20 & 21 April, 2013
A canvas of canopies and vans greeted you at Spur Hill MVRG on Saturday morning before dawn. 37 juniors began racing at 7.30 am - racing for 3 1/5 hours, six sections to a schedule, followed by 78 seniors racing for almost 6 hours doing 9 sections. Competition included a “cross test” and an “enduro test” timed to 1/100th second. The class winners lost no “trail time” on schedule and had the lowest combined special test times. Results were amazing close after hours of racing.
Sunday same again, with trail times tightened up a little. Earlier start, but one section less to allow time for presentations and for riders to travel back home with at least a little daylight!
The weather was kind, though the track got a bit dusty by Sunday afternoon.
The event ran very smoothly to schedule thanks to the combined efforts of many. We are thankful to the many sweep riders who gave up their weekend to support our club. Also all the time control marshals also doing long days , on duty from 7am til 5pm Saturday and 6.30am til 3pm on Sunday. Our Steward Steve Squires, Clerk of Course Ivan Burkill & Jeff Richardson, Race Secretary Elisen Burkill and Scrutineer Jan Waldon. We cannot name all but thank you all greatly for your enormous help in ensuring the success this event was. As you know, the riders and support crew appreciate our efforts.
To quote one dad: “Wow! What a fantastic weekend!!! Many thanks to the Denman Club for hosting Rounds 1 & 2 of The Enduro State Championships. Great weather, great people, great spirit, great track.....the list goes on.”
All are grateful to the landholders for the privilege of riding on their land, enabling this prestigious state event to be hosted. Jeff Wolfgang, Robin & Sandra Wolfgang and the Cole Family Estate – BIG thank you! One rider asked why would someone own so many rocks. He was told he could take home as many as he liked!
Denman Rotary were kept busy from dawn to dusk keeping up their great food.
St Johns Ambulance volunteers also endured long days supporting our event with first aid. Three injured juniors – two broken wrists and a lacerated knee requiring ambulance. We wish them all a speedy recovery.
We also appreciated the enormous support from the NSW enduro committee in particular with electronic timing – awesome, so good!
Two key people instrumental for the results achieved are Jeff and Ivan, along with their small band of helpers. Hundreds of hours were spent over two months laying and marking the tracks, becoming more intense in the weeks leading up to the event, including km’s of slashing the long grass in the open sections. The event was a state title and the course offered even the top riders a challenging array of terrain: from tree covered hillsides, open paddocks and the odd “rock garden”. Only a few Juniors and seniors DNF’d (Did Not Finish). Although there would be many tired and sore bodies!
We are pleased the event went so well – our reputation remains intact!
Local boys did well among some tough competition: Isaac Richardson 3rd both days (Expert U21’s), Jed Blackhall 3rd Saturday and Bailey Graham 3rd Sunday (J2B, 85cc 13-15yo) and Drew Cassar also put in a great effort on a tough course! Former locals Jason Pearce 2nd both days Championship Veterans and Mark Peacock  2nd both days in Masters class. We experienced and witnessed great sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Thanks again all for the combined efforts ☺

R5 PonyX + JuniorXC + Series Final 7.10.12 Pony X: 12/10/2012

Round 5 Club Pony Express & Junior Cross Country Series 2012.

Sunday 7th October, just a small turnout of 38 riders participated in the 5th and final round of our 2012 club series at Spur Hill. Start of daylight saving, rescheduled date, end of school holidays, the heat, other motorcycle events and of course the Bathurst race no doubt each culled a few off our usual turnout of at least double that. Hard to believe just 4 months ago this round was postponed due to wet weather and now the hot and dry conditions had us shortening the race duration to 3 1/2 hrs for ironman and 4 hrs for pony express teams. The juniors had a good day alternating laps. Again we had a few new faces, nearly all from Sydney - welcome to the Denman club!

We have had a good series, an average of 52 seniors & 18 juniors participating in the 5 rounds (22.4, 5.8, 2.9, 23.9 & 7.10.12). Some riders travelled up to five hours just to participate at our club days - Mittagong, Nelsons Bay, Greater Sydney, Lower Hunter, Tamworth, Mudgee, Central Coast, Dungog and some from just down the road – Jerrys Plains, Singleton, Muswellbrook & Denman. Riders were aged from 7 to 70 years young and come from diverse backgrounds from blue collar to white collar professions and of course school students. We’re pleased to offer an event that riders can enjoy and keep coming back for more. We especially thank all the support crews and families for coming along to support your riders!

Thanks to a bunch of helpers, the days run smoothly and well, with club members receiving compliments on our organisation and how much they enjoy coming to our events. Positive feedback is always good to receive.

Rotary do a great job keeping all fed. St Johns Ambulance Singleton crew for the provision of first aid – whole series only 9 minor injuries including one ambulance trip.

All appreciate the generosity of Jeff Wolfgang for the use of his land so riders can enjoy their sport.

Also instrumental in the series’ success is the course, set mainly by Jeff Richardson with the help of few, who spends days marking the course with 100’s of arrows, and km of plastic tape. The course traverses tree covered terrain with rocky bits, hilly bits and grassy bits. Unfortunately the weather is a bit hard to control: April it was dry, June got rained out, August was best and the last 3 in Sept & Oct were dry.

Seniors rode Pony Express = cross country 12km course / 2 riders per team, most laps in 5 hour race time, with ironman class riding solo for 4 hours; juniors rode Cross Country 65cc on a 4km cross country course for 1 ½ hours, 85cc & junior lites (125cc / 250cc 4 stroke) rode 8km course for 2 hours. Riders with most laps in set time = winners. Ribbons awarded to all placings plus participation ribbon to all juniors. Series trophies presented at final round.

After spending 1 1/2 hours doing sign-on, scorers spend over 5 hours staying focused recording each rider's number & lap time (don't miss any!) -it is almost as gruelling mentally.

We appreciate the many sweep riders, timekeepers, marshals, key officials and all who help at working bees and help clear up at the end of each race day.

We held series presentations after the day's ribbon presentations plus special Thank You Certificates for St Johns and Denman Rotary for their services throughout 2012 plus Landholder Jeff Wolfgang.

Round4 PonyX + Junior XCountry 23.9.12 Pony X: 25/09/2012

Club Pony Express & Junior Cross Country 23rd September, 2012

A hot spring day and 47 seniors and 15 juniors participated in Round 4 of our club series. Due to the prevailing dry and hot conditions, the seniors' times were cut back - ironman to 3 1/2 hours (instead of 4) and teams to 4 hours (instead of 5). Grateful were they! All finished bar one ironman and one junior. The day ran very smoothly with club members receiving compliments on our organisation and how much they enjoy coming to our events. Positive feedback is always good to receive. We had two young riders, first race after completing their kick start program a couple of weeks ago - Kyle coming 3rd in the 65cc class - well done!

Do you like the new road and bow banners? We do!

Thank you Jeff Wolfgang (Landholder - huge thanks), Denman Rotary (for catering), St johns First Aid (two minor injury reports), Steward Danny Graham, our sweep riders (you do an important job), scorers (extremely important job) and especially all the riders and their support crews (it's all about you!). Thank you also to all who helped pack up at day's end.

We have the final round to go in less than two weeks - includes series presentation of trophies. Many classes are very close, and the last round will be the determining one! See you there.

New Website!

Recently we have gone live with this new website.

This new website has many features - the primary ones being online early entry for riders (no more copy, paste & email) and the club is able to log on and make news feeds, upload photos, change page content without having to go through the webmaster. This is especially important when we have inclement weather and need to post an urgent notice. We are very pleased and the feedback has been great, with over 3000 hits already!

We have also had a Facebook page since early this year, which is another great tool for communicating information to riders.

We take this opportunity to thank our previous webmaster, Manuel Fernandes (HUBiT) for the design and maintenance of our first website over the past 3 years which had 74,436 hits at time of shutdown! Thank you Manuel - your time has been greatly appreciated.

Grass Track 4 Grass Track: 18/09/2012

Grass Track Motocross 16th September, 2012

It’s 6.30 am on Sunday morning at Glen Munro and in the fog you can hear the watering truck, watering the dry ground for the last grass track natural terrain motocross for 2012. The fog lifts to a fine and breezy day. Martindale P&C have got the barbie going and 38 riders signed on for a fun day, including 3 new juniors, who just completed their kick start program last weekend. Many still come from far afield such as Sydney, Wollongong, Lower Hunter, Tamworth & Central Coast as well as local Upper Hunter for a great day of racing with the Denman MCC.

The day went very smoothly, managing to get in six heats before 4pm. Gavin came at lunchtime to water the track again to keep the dust kinda at bay.  The track for the most part stayed pretty good with the watering. No injuries, although we had a false alarm with a pile up on the first corner in the last heat of the 85cc class, with one rider not getting up too quickly…. but she got up and came 2nd again, as she did all day – go girl! At presentations it was really great to hear one young rider thanking his grandparents for coming out to watch him race for the first time – thanks to all families, partners and friends who come along to support their riders. Noted one grandma who was watching the kids while Dad and son raced and Mum was busy in the canteen.

Thank you Rosebrook Sand & Gravel for the provision of your watering truck and especially to Gavin for giving up his time to water the track several times over the weekend. Thank you to Mark & Jeff Wolfgang families for the use of their land, Martindale P&C far catering and St Johns Ambulance for provision of First Aid. Thank you to all the Mums, Dads and family members who helped marshal, score and pack up at the end of the day – you are all greatly appreciated – you all help make our days great :)

Round 3 PonyX + Junior XCountry 2.9.12 Pony X: 10/09/2012

Round 3 Pony Express & Junior Cross Country 2nd September, 2012

Father's Day was a fine spring day for the 3rd round of our club series. Numbers down a little, but 70 riders came along for a day at Spur Hill - a good thing probably, as conditions have become dry and dusty. Thirteen new families / individuals came along from greater Sydney, Lower Hunter, Tamworth, Central Coast. Riders aged 7 to 70 had a tiring but fun day, and almost all finished. We think a few riders found the ride a bit more challenging than expected! The junior 65cc class was very well represented but no junior lites turned up. A couple of riders who normally participate, but came along to help instead - got a little taste of the other side (helped with scoring) and discovered it is not as easy as it seems! After spending 1 1/2 hours doing sign-on, spending over 5 hours staying focused recording each rider's class colour, number & lap time (don't miss any!) is almost as grueling mentally.

All appreciate the generosity of Jeff Wolfgang for the use of his land so riders can enjoy their sport. Thank you Denman Rotary for keeping all well fed. Thank you Singleton St Johns Ambulance crew for the provision of first aid. One junior with a shoulder injury (back at school Monday) the only injury reported. To Jeff, Isaac, Ivan, Amon, Richard, Jeremy, Michael & Jayden thank you for setting up on Saturday. Elisen, Beck, Virginia, Kelly, Richard scoring all day; Jeremy, Isaac, Amon, Brendan, John, Joel & Marty sweeping both tracks; Craig our Steward for travelling from Sydney - you all help make our days great. THANK YOU!

To all the families who come along to support their riders - especially dads this weekend :)

Highlight of the day: Josh Green.... did 15 laps in 4 hours in ironman class (ie solo), 3 minutes quicker than the fastest expert team (who take turns riding laps, refuelling etc while the partner is riding). This means, 15 laps, plus refuelling, and to top it off, had a flat tyre to fix.... that is hard to beat.... no wonder he is a champion rider! Josh's fastest lap was 15m39s, longest 21m36s (included flat tyre) and was still running 16 minute laps after 4 hours while average expert laps over 5 hours was about 20 minutes!
